The Resurrection

1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to see the tomb along with the other Mary. 2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone afrom the entrance and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they trembled and became like dead men. 5Then the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who has been crucified. 6He is not here, for he is risen, just as he said. Come see the place where bthe Lord lay. 7Now go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead. And behold, he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him. Listen to what I have told you.” 8So they went cout quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9dAs they went on their way to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” So they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

The Soldiers Bribed to Lie

11As they went, behold, some of the guards went into the city and brought word to the chief priests of all that had taken place. 12After the chief priests had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers 13and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were sleeping.’ 14If this matter is heard before the governor, we will persuade him and keep you free from concern.” 15So they took the money and did as they had been instructed. And this story is still being spread among the Jews today.

The Great Commission

16Meanwhile, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19eGo and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

The disciples prostrated before Jesus before being given the Great Commission, here translated as "they worshiped" (from προσεκύνησαν / prosekynēsan).

    1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus' body. 2Very early in the morning of the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3On the way they were saying to one another, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb for us?” 4But when they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled away. 5As they went into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white robe, and they were alarmed. 6But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen; he is not here. Behold, this is the place where they laid him. 7Now go tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” 8So they went out and fled from the tomb, and trembling and amazement seized them. But they did not say anything to anyone, for they were afraid.

    1On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared, and some other women were with them. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were greatly perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling clothes. 5The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and on the third day rise again.” 8Then they remembered his words. 9When they returned from the tomb, they told all these things to the eleven and to all the others. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11But their words came across to the apostles as nonsense, and they did not believe them. 12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. When he stooped down to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there by themselves. So he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

    1On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and she saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb. 2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3So Peter went out, along with the other disciple, and they began making their way to the tomb. 4The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5Stooping down to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter, who had been following him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there 7and the facecloth that had been on Jesus' head. But it was not lying with the linen cloths; it was folded up separately in another place. 8Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. He saw and believed. 9(For they did not yet understand the Scripture that Jesus must rise from the dead.) 10Then the disciples went back to their homes.

    14Later Jesus appeared to the eleven as they were reclining at the table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen him after he had risen. 15He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up serpents; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will certainly not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and the sick will get well.”
